The Visual Problem: CVS

Computers Are Everywhere
Almost everyone uses a computer. According to the 2001 US Census Report, 143 million people use a computer every day, including 54 million children. While computers enable us to be more efficient and more productive, this can come at a price: Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS). Typical symptoms include:
• Eyestrain
• Headaches
• Slow focusing
• Tired, burning eyes
• Neck and shoulder pain
• Blurred vision at distance

Why Does CVS Occur?
The human vision system is not designed for long hours of computer viewing. Display images are made up of pixels—tiny dots of light on which our eyes cannot focus accurately. Your doctor uses the PRIO vision tester to determine the precise correction you need for your eyes to relax and be comfortable at the computer. Learn more about CVS in "What is Computer Vision Syndrome?"

For many years PRIO has been leading the charge in educating employers, employees and even Congress about the reality of Computer Vision Syndrome.

At the same time PRIO has developed our unique PRIO Tester; the only Class 1 Medical Instrument designed to accurately measure an individual's Resting Point of Accommodation which allows an eyecare professional to properly prescribe glasses to compensate for the Lag of Accommodation associated with working at a computer.
